Gipuzkoa
Al maig de 2006, es va posar en marxa a Guipúscoa el projecte “INfància i Medi Ambient (INMA)” per tal d’avaluar el paper dels contaminants ambientals presents en l’aire, en l’aigua i en la dieta en el creixement i desenvolupament dels infants. La incorporació de les mares a la cohort es va fer coincidir amb la primera ecografia de control de l’embaràs. Es van recollir mostres biològiques (sang, orina, cabell, placenta, etc.) i els van fer omplir diversos qüestionaris (general, dieta, laboral, ambiental, etc.). Després es va fer la valoració dels contaminants presents en l’aire i en l’aigua de consum, així com una estimació dels contaminants que aportava la dieta.
L’àmbit geogràfic d’estudi ve definit per la població de referència de l’Hospital Zumarraga, que inclou els municipis de Goierri i de l’Alt i Mitjà Urola. Aquest entorn es va seleccionar per les característiques del servei de l’Hospital i l’atenció primària implicats, així com per les característiques ambientals: presència massiva d’indústries siderometal·lúrgiques, alta densitat de trànsit, els nivells baixos de productes derivats de la desinfecció en l’aigua de consum i una dieta rica en peix, units a un cert grau d’hipotiroïdisme en les dones embarassades.
Des de llavors, s’ha fet el seguiment de 640 dones en el primer i tercer trimestre de l’embaràs. Actualment, s’està fent el seguiment de 623 nens en aspectes de creixement i de desenvolupament neuroconductual.
