Granada
L’any 2001, va començar a l’Hospital Clínic de Granada i a l’Hospital Ponent d’Almeria el reclutament d’una cohort de dones embarassades amb l’objectiu d’estudiar la rellevància de malformacions del tracte genitourinari masculí en els nounats.
L’objectiu principal era intentar demostrar que existia una relació entre l’exposició crònica de la mare a compostos químics ambientals amb activitat hormonal “disruptors endocrins” i la freqüència de criptorquídia i hipoespàdies en la descendència.
Amb aquest motiu es van reclutar al voltant de 700 dones que van parir nens mascles, entre els quals es van detectar més de 50 casos indexats (criptorquídia i/o hipospàdies). Paral·lelament, es va iniciar un estudi cas-control de 150 nounats amb intervenció en la dieta de les mares durant l’embaràs (suplement d’àcid fòlic).
La cohort de mares – fills i naixements proporciona informació molt útil sobre l’exposició maternoinfantil a compostos químics amb activitat hormonal. Els estudis que ja estan en marxa han servit per manifestar la importància de l’exposició materna i les diferències regionals amb altres països europeus. L’aplicació addicional de marcadors d’exposició és útil en la caracterització de les interaccions entre compostos químics i l’efecte hormonal que en resulta.
