Vivir cerca de zonas verdes reduce la obesidad infantil
Un estudio científico del CREAL confirma los beneficios para la salud de vivir cerca de espacios verdes y azules (bosques, parques, lagos, mar, etc.) ya que reduce la obesidad y el sobrepeso. El único problema es que los investigadores han comprobado que esto aumenta la posibilidad de alergias, aunque no los casos de asma. Según afirma el autor del estudio Payam Dadvand, investigador del CREAL, centro aliado ISGlobal, vivir cerca de zonas verdes asocia con el 11-19{3effe4377b6f02be2524d084f7d03914ac32a2b62c0a056ca3444e58c1f10d0b} menos de prevalencia de sobrepeso/obesidad así como una reducción del tiempo frente a un televisor o pantalla. Del mismo modo, la proximidad residencial a los bosques (áreas verdes mayores) se ha asociado con un 39{3effe4377b6f02be2524d084f7d03914ac32a2b62c0a056ca3444e58c1f10d0b} y un 25{3effe4377b6f02be2524d084f7d03914ac32a2b62c0a056ca3444e58c1f10d0b} de menor prevalencia relativa de tiempo de pantalla excesivo y el sobrepeso/obesidad, respectivamente, pero no se asoció con asma. Por el contrario, aquellos que viven cerca de los parques tienen un 60{3effe4377b6f02be2524d084f7d03914ac32a2b62c0a056ca3444e58c1f10d0b} de riesgo mayor de padecer asma, aunque apenas se detectaron asociaciones con la obesidad. En este estudio los investigadores utilizaron datos de 3.178 niños en edad escolar (9-12 años de edad) en Sabadell, España (2006), a través de cuestionarios. Además de esto, midieron el “verdor” circundante residencial como el promedio de diferencia normalizada obtenida por satélite con el Índice de Vegetación (NDVI) en distàncies de 100 m, 250 m, 500 m, y 1000 m alrededor de cada domicilio. La proximidad residencial a los espacios verdes se definió a vivir a unos 300 metros de un bosque o un parque.
