Granada
En el año 2001 comenzó en el Hospital Clínico de Granada y el Hospital de Poniente de Almería el reclutamiento de una cohorte de mujeres embarazadas, con el objeto de estudiar la relevancia de malformaciones del tracto genito-urinario masculino en los recién nacidos.
El objetivo era intentar demostrar la existencia de una relación entre la exposición crónica de la madre a compuestos químicos ambientales con actividad hormonal, “disruptores endocrinos” y la frecuencia de criptorquidia e hipospadias en la descendencia.
Con este motivo se reclutaron aproximadamente 700 mujeres que dieron a luz hijos varones, entre los que se detectaron más de 50 casos indexados (criptorquidia y/o hipospadias). Paralelamente se inició un estudio caso-control de 150 recién nacidos con intervención en la dieta durante el embarazo (suplemento de ácido fólico a las madres).
La cohorte de madres-hijos y nacimientos está proporcionando información muy útil sobre la exposición materno-infantil a compuestos químicos con actividad hormonal. Los estudios que ya se han iniciado han servido para poner de manifiesto la importancia de la exposición materna y las diferencias regionales existentes con otros países europeos. La aplicación adicional de marcadores de exposición está siendo de utilidad en la caracterización de las interacciones entre compuestos químicos y el efecto hormonal resultante.
