La Unidá d’Epidemioloxía del Institutu Universitariu d’Oncoloxía de la Universidá d’Uviéu, escomienza n’Asturies nel añu 2004, en concreto na selmana decimosegunda d’embaranzu una cohorte de naciatos de la población del Área Sanitaria III col obxetivu d’estudiar el papel de les esposiciones ambientales nel desarrollu (neuro-conductal y antropométricu) y na salú (principalmente respiratoria) dientro de la rede INMA (Infancia y Mediu Ambiente) que financia l’Institutu de Salú Carlos III. Trátase d’un estudiu observacional de cohortes a embaranzaes de la población xeneral, dende’l primer trimestre hasta’l partu, y a los sos fíos, dende’l nacimientu hasta la mocedá. Les muyeres teníen que vivir nel Área III d’Asturies, y tener una edá igual o superior a dieciséis años nel periodu 2004-2006. Otros criterios de selección fueron: embaranzu únicu, que nun hubiese torga dala na comunicación, y nun carecer d’enfermedá crónica.
L’área sanitaria III d’Asturies engloba los conceyos d’Avilés, Corvera, Castrillón, Gozón, Cuideiru, Pravia, Muros de Nalón y Sotu’l Barcu, toos ellos con cabecera nel Hospital San Agustín d’Avilés. Esta área inclúi’l conceyu d’Avilés y la cortorna con un nivel altu d’industrialización, ufierta una posibilidá bona pa facer una cohorte dende’l embaranzu: el tamañu de la población permitió reclutar en dos años el númberu d’embaranzaes requeríes, la integración de la so estructura sanitaria fexo que toles embaranzaes s’atendieren nun centru únicu d’atención secundaria pa la primer visita y pa la primer ecografía, y un únicu hospital pal partu.
La cohorte reclutada presenta característiques comunes de los embaranzos nel nuestru entornu (edá media 31.82 años, ocupación nel embaranzu 70.51%, tabaquismu nel tercer trimestre d’embaranzu 17.76%), sicasí, les participantes teníen della selección p’hacia una educación meyor y soporte social que la media: educación superior a primaria 81.85%, familia bi-parental al nacimientu del neñu 99.38%. D’otra manera, la variabilidá nes esposiones, tanto de contaminación como de dieta, fai que’l marcu contextual sía de gran valor pal estudiu propuestu.
La información atropada inclúi la esposición individual a la contaminación atmosférica nel embaranzu, el crecimientu intra-uterino y post-natal, el desarrollu mental al añu y el mediu, y la dieta y los nutrientes nel embaranzu y al añu y mediu d’edá. Tamién se recoyó sangre de la madre, remu y lleche materno. Ta complentándose’l siguimientu a los 18 meses d’edá, con una respuesta del 92%.
