In the city of Sabadell, the program of attention to the gestant begins with the first visit, approximately between the 4th and 6th weeks of gestation, made by the midwife in the CAP II Sant Fèlix, the only centre of specialised primary attention of the city. All the women who attended the program between July 2004 and July 2006, with unique pregnancy, without previous chronic diseases (chronic hypertension, arteriosclerosis, chronic renal insufficiency, vasculitis, cancers, alcoholism, drug addiction), older than 16 years, that had not followed a program of attended reproduction, without communication problems and who had intention of giving birth in the Hospital of Sabadell were invited to participate to the study.

The Hospital of Sabadell (Corporació Sanitària Paric Taulí) covers all the population in Sabadell, acting as a specialised consulting room and the reference hospital for births. A total of 657 women were included, who were followed every trimester of the pregnancy until the moment of birth.

Between May 2007 and July 2007, an additional round of recruitment of pregnant women (with the same characteristics previously described) was made directly when attending the Hospital to give birth. In this second phase, a total of 130 women were included in the study.

The children of both groups have been evaluated at the age of 6 and 14 months, and 2 and a half and 4 years.
